It’s 3:30am. I’m wide awake. I’m toying with the idea of grocery shopping, but that requires something other than my jammies.
I often wake up at this time. I guess it’s the Lord’s way of guaranteeing that I get my “quiet time”. I love the quiet that early mornings bring. There’s no demands from dogs or three year olds. There’s no distractions. Just quiet.
It’s the perfect time to read my bible, pray and reflect on how amazing our God truly is. We forget that sometimes. I know I have. I’m just like the Israelites of old. They witnessed hands on the power of God, but oh, how quickly they forgot. (Exodus 16)
It’s easy to rely on the Lord when that’s all you can do. When we find ourselves dealing with cancer or fire or job loss, we find ourselves clinging to God every moment, praising him for every doctor or crust of bread. But the moment things return to normal, we forget. We complain. We get disheartened. Daily, we’re surrounded by mana and yet, we can’t help but long for something more.
Psalms 68:19 is an excellent reminder that God provides and is at work everyday in our lives. We should be praising him from the mountain tops for our health, our home, our ordinary and mundane just like we do during our trials.
So, now, as I drift back to sleep, I’ll be praising God for my cozy bed, the ability and funds to grocery shop (when the sun comes up), a bright-eyed, blond-headed little girl that sometimes yells my name too much, a hard-working, God-fearing husband, my passionate, rule-breaking firstborn and a houseful of critters that create more chaos than I care to mention.
Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah. Psalms 68:19
