The hospital OR. The last time I was here, was 6 weeks ago. That feels like forever yet, it feels like yesterday.
I remember panicking a little bit before they took me back because I hadn’t written letters to my littles. And there was a thought of, “what if...” I quickly scribbled down a few thoughts on some scrap paper. It wasn’t the glorious fashion I had envisioned. But, they needed to know now and forever, that I love them. Fiercely. Deeply. Unconditionally.
Even more importantly, they need to know God loves them. It’s hard to fathom that someone could love someone more ferociously than a mom. But HE does.
Despite our flaws and our foolishness, he loves us. There is not a thing we can do that can change that.
One of Miss A’s favorite books ends with these few lines:
No one has your great big heart
God made you special from the start.
You are perfect, little one.
There’s no one like you-no, not one!

God loves us. He created us unique. Special. Perfect. Not perfect in the way the world views perfection. But perfect in his eyes because we were created in HIS image.
Our kids need to be taught to celebrate their uniqueness. It’s God-given.
Our kids need to know how much God loves them. They are perfectly imperfect. It doesn’t matter what perceived flaws they think they have. God loves them anyway.
Our kids need to know the value of life. Success is not measured in an A+ report card, money in the bank or how many social media “followers” you have. From the start,
God made each one of us special. From the moment we were conceived, he loved us.
Our kids need to learn to love others the same way God loves them.

It’s more than a powerful word. It’s an action. You can’t truly love someone, without showing them. It’s why we buy flowers on Valentine’s Day and wrapping paper from the grandkids for their school fundraiser.
Our kids need to understand the depth of God’s love so they can show that to others. So they can do for others. Be kind. Be helpful. Go sit next to that kid and share your brownie without expecting something in return. Be a friend to the friendless. Be an advocate. For crying out loud, clean your room without being asked!
