This little cutie and I were leaving our favorite coffee shop yesterday. We got ready to cross into the drive and I said, “hold my hand”.
Wanting to exert her independence, she said, “I’ll stay by you” which means she doesn’t want to hold my hand. I agreed. We looked for traffic and then started across to our car.
We were midway to our car, when the truck parked next to us decided to pull out of their space.
We suddenly found ourselves in the path of this big ol’ truck. All I could do was scream, “STOP, STOP, STOP!!!!!”
Thankfully, the driver heard me and we all came away fine. (Other than a few tears from Miss A).
My annoyance for drivers of vehicles that are too big for them escalated a bit at that moment. Although I found myself angry, I really think it was more fear. We were just feet from danger. “What if...”
This morning, I’m still thinking about that moment yesterday although with a clearer head.
It was was a great moment for the classics, “this is why we hold hands and look before we cross”. But it was also a perfect moment to acknowledge God’s protection and forgiveness.
Today Miss A and I are thankful for both.
